The Utica Memorial Auditorium has been the home to the Mohawk Valley Youth Hockey Association for over two decades. With the addition of the AHL’s Utica Comets five years ago, MVYHA decided to change its name to the Utica Jr. Comets as they are proud to share the AUD with the AHL’s Utica Comets and they strive to strengthen their affiliation with professional hockey in the Mohawk Valley. The Jr. Comets were granted Tier 1 status for the 2016-2017 season, something never done before by any other organization in the Mohawk Valley. Two AAA level teams were fielded for the 16-17 season, one at the 2004 and one at the 2006 birth year. This upcoming season, the Jr. Comets will field a Tier 1 AAA team at every birth year ranging from 2002 to 2008. The organization has built an impressive development model by surrounding the kids with the best possible coaches the area has to offer. From Mites through Midgets, the coaching staff for the Jr. Comets has several members that played hockey at all different professional levels, including the NHL.
